Catching Up!

Well, I am not "officially" back to work, but am catching up on some newborn sessions that I started before my accident. I plan to start accepting clients in July, when my youngest goes to Kindergarten! Until then, you may see posts every now and then of my kids, travels, and a baby session or two...I miss it, but feel like this is what's best for my family right now.

So for now, enjoy this absolutely adorable, 6 month angel and his sweet older brother!

Post Surgery Update

I thought I would update you all on my recovery from surgery. The surgeon said the surgery went as well as to be expected, and he was able to reconnect both tendons together! So now we wait and heal. I was in a splint after the surgery until the swelling went down, then a cast (which i DID NOT like!) and this week they have taken the cast off and now I am in a beautiful, black boot. I am able to start putting pressure on my foot, and in a couple of weeks will start physical therapy, when the doctor feels the tendons are completely healed and able to be stretched. So I am in the waiting and healing phase right now!

What does this mean for Katie Williams Photography? Well, my clients who had scheduled with me before the accident have been more than understanding and I thank them from the bottom of my heart! Some rescheduled with people I referred them to, and some are waiting for me to heal! I can't believe it. That is just so sweet and melted my heart when I heard this.

I have no idea when I will walk steadily and be comfortable behind the camera with children again. Once I start physical therapy in a couple of weeks, I will have a better idea. Until then, I will have to stay closed and not take on any new clients at this time. However, I am planning on doing some mini sessions later in the fall, once I am stead on my feet, for Christmas card purposes, so please check back on the blog for this update sometime in September!

And not to leave you without some images. From my scooter (yes, I've been using a knee-walker to get around instead of crutches!) I have been able to take some pictures, but not many. My oldest two boys participated in their first TRIATHALON which was so inspiring to me! And then my family spent 8 days in Colorado at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO which had been planned before the accident. The kids had a blast white water rafting, and riding to the top of Pike's Peak on the COG railway. I had a blast at the spa! :)

Update and Prayer Requests

Hi All!

We had a meeting with a surgeon this morning, and have some very specific prayer requests I would like to pass on. I am so scared, but know God's in control, and this is my only comfort.

I severed the tendon that helps me walk and the tendon that controls my big toe. I also *quite possibly* severed a major artery, but he won't know until he goes in and looks. (if you are wondering what happened, see the post below :)

Surgery will either be Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Praises:

1) That we discovered this sooner than later. The sooner that tendons are reconstructed or reattached the better chance they have of working right again.

2) That no nerves were damaged. This is huge. Praise God!!!

3) That the boys will be taken care of this week and weekend. Lawson's sister and parents are taking them to the mountains for the 4th, leaving Tues night and coming back Sun.

4) That I will only have to be in a cast 6-8 weeks vs. 4 months, as originally thought! With physical therapy after that.

Specific Prayer Requests:

** That we choose the right surgeon** We have a meeting with another one in the morning. We had one today and liked him and he has scheduled surgery for Thurs. The one we meet tomorrow has surgery scheduled for Wednesday.

1) That the tendons would be "stretchy" enough still to work properly again. The longer they stay severed, the less likely they will work right.

2) That the doctor's hand would be divinely guided throughout the whole proceedure.

3) That I would regain complete mobility in my foot again, and not walk with a "dead" foot. The foot drags now, and if the tendon that works this part of the foot can't be re-attached properly, then, well, that's bad. This is my biggest fear.

4) That the Lord would give me peace. My heart is racing a mile a minute as I type this e-mail.

5) That the Lord would give Lawson complete patience with me, as I will be completely helpless on crutches for the next 6-8 weeks, without driving.

6) That our driving needs would be met.

It is with extreme sadness that I have to write this to you, my friends and sweet clients.

Last Saturday, while photographing a bride before her wedding, I had an accident. I cut the front of my ankle deeply while tripping over a piece of very thin sharp granite that was just lying in the middle of her patio. (I have tried to figure out for the life of me what this was and why it was lying there, but it was moved quickly after i tripped over it, and I didn't get a good look at it).

They called the ambulance for me, and continued on to the ceremony. (don't worry, i had hired a second shooter who did an AWESOME job at capturing their wedding and reception for me!!). The ER doc told me it was just a surface cut and stitched me up.

Well, I have no control over my right foot. It just dangles. So, i went to a local orthopedic doctor who ordered an MRI. I just received a call. I am still stunned from the news. The doctor said that i cut my ankle in the worst spot possible, severing my tendons between my leg and my toes. He said that he has not done a surgery like this in over 10 years, and had to refer me to a foot and ankle specialist in Raleigh. He warned me that this is a very significant surgery which will put me on crutches and in a boot for up to 6 months, with extensive physical therapy afterwards. I am still laughing at the ER nurse who told me to "toughen up", that it was just a cut! I think cutting tendons is a little more painful than just a "cut"! :)

So with all this said, I am having to regretfully close Katie Williams Photography, and refer any of you already scheduled to one of my awesome photographer friends in the area. Please contact me if you would like a referral. I am SO completely sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause any of you. I will be contacting each of you that has already been scheduled by e-mail as well.

As for those existing clients who have already had their sessions, I am happy to keep meeting and working with you on your orders and will see your sessions to completion. It's just the pictures i can't take anymore.

It's ironic that this has occurred. I have been feeling very overwhelmed lately with my work schedule, and I really do feel this is the Lord's way of making me slow down. REALLY slow down. His ways are not mine, and if this is what He has for me, then I will gladly take it.

Oh how I love dowtown Wake Forest! I have lived in Wake Forest for 10 years now...I just can't believe it! And this sweet adorable family was one of our first friends we met when we moved here! We were friends BEFORE kids! Wow. And I have been photographing at this "spot" for a couple of years now...I just love it. The lighting is perfect and I just love the texture on the walls. I feel like it is a little hidden gem in downtown, that quite frankly, nobody really notices! So you may see it a LOT on my website, but I haven't found a closer spot that I like more to suggest to families with small children who don't want to travel 45 minutes to Duke Gardens or downtown Raleigh...

I have just been so blessed these past first 2 years of my business with the most awesome clients! Thank you so much for letting me capture pictures of your beautiful children! I really do mean it. It has been such a joy!

That being said, I am needing to take a little time off and spend time with my own children! My littlest one will be going to Kindergarten next year, so he is only home with me for one more year..**sniff*. And this fall I will have 3 boys participating in indoor and outdoor soccer, with some wrestling mixed in there somewhere. Fall is such a busy time of year for our family. So I will be taking some much needed time off this fall, starting at the end of August!

When my little one goes to Kindergarten next year, I will be ramping up the business and be able to work more. But this Fall and early Spring 2010, I will only be accepting newborns. I have 2 spots left for FAMILY sessions this summer, so if you are interested, please contact me ASAP! And you clients whose newborns I have photographed this year....don't worry. I will be available to photograph their 6 month and 1 year portraits!

I've had a slew of requests already for me to do your Christmas cards this year. And YES, I will be having mini sessions THIS FALL. What is a mini session? Mini sessions are scheduled back to back, where i can spend about 30 minutes with your children, to focus on capturing that perfect "Christmas card picture". Individual shots of the kids will be taken also. I will take one Saturday and one weekday this fall to do these. So stay tuned to the blog for the announcement!

ATLATNA: I've also had a request to come down to Atlanta this Fall for mini sessions, which will include Christmas cards. I plan on doing this sometime in September, so stay tuned for that announcement also!

Hello Sweet Blog Readers! I am so very far behind...please forgive me if i have not blogged your session yet! I have been traveling like a madwoman...and there is really no end in sight right now...so i press on! Here is a sweet maternity and newborn session i did for a dear friend. I just love how she is truly exhibiting the pregnancy "glow"... Baby B was baptized yesterday. I was out of town and missed it, but heard it was a very sweet time. Congratulations!!

I was flattered when they asked me to do the April cover shoot. You can view VYPE magazine in its printed form online here or pick up a copy at local schools, fitness centers such as the YMCA, Harris Teeters, and many other locations. When i photographed Grayson Murry, I asked him if he was the next Tiger Woods...to which he replied, "I think I am." He is only 15, and yet is following in Tiger's footsteps by becoming a three-peat Callaway Junior World Golf Champion. Murry is definitely one to watch!

And this is big brother Brooks...one of the sweetest nephews in the world. He kept telling me over and over again, "I love you, Aunt Katie. I miss you when you're at your house." I'm in love...

My mom has taken up knitting :) and went to town knitting cocoons for her two new grandbabies (Avalea Rose pictured in a previous post)...here's a pink one...
and an adorable hat she knitted just for sweet Katie.
I'm so sad they live so far away in Little Rock!!! I miss them already.

Thought it would be appropriate to upload these pictures of my two nieces to wish you guys a happy St. Patrick's Day! St. Patrick's Day is a bigger deal in our family than most! We are of Irish Descent, and my Dad, Granddad, Great Grandfather, Brother and now my son all have the name Patrick. My two nieces both have Irish names, Aislynn and Avalea, and are "Irish twins", born 11 months apart. I was able to photograph them a couple of weeks ago, and my SIL Wendy's friend made these matching outfits for the girls. So, on behalf of our Irish little family....Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I finally got to meet my friend Casey's new baby girl today!! Casey is a sweet friend, who shares the same passion as i do about photography. She is an amazing photographer, an incredible hair stylist, and just a downright, awesome person all around. She and her husband have been through so many ups and downs this past year, to say the very absolute least. She was pregnant with her son Asher, who devastatingly passed away, the same day he was born. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and this past Christmas, Casey and Dan became proud parents to Zoe, whom they were able to adopt in the quickest adoption process i've ever heard of! So i present to you, little miss Zoe Chappell...i could just eat her up she's so cute! You can read more about Casey and Dan's story on their blog and see Casey's awesome photography here.

SNOW in Wake Forest

To you guys in the North, snow is no big deal...but to us here in the South, it is a HUGE deal. The last snow we had of any significance, that i can remember, was @ 9 years ago, when i was pregnant with Patrick...21 inches to be exact. We received about 5 inches at our house yesterday. You would think it was Christmas, the way the kids reacted when they awoke screaming!!

Here is Colin...snowmen were decorated with a Snowman Family Kit, given to us by Lawson's sister for Christmas.

I love these kids so much...or because I love their parents so much...or because i know how incredibly special Bodie, the "first born" dog, is to the family...whatever the reason, I tear up looking at these. You see, Bodie's sweet little body is full of that awful disease out there called cancer. She is still happy, wags her tail, and even runs. We wanted to capture what sweet time this family has left with their special friend. We love you Bodie! :)

My boys and I just returned from Learnfest, a photography workshop that was held in Bald Head Island, NC. Well if you live anywhere close to the east coast, you know that a noreaster was scheduled to blow through there yesterday and today! We left JUST IN TIME and so many poor photogs were left to battle the winds and rain. Well, here is what WE encountered on the ferry ride before the storm hit...wonder what the ferry ride was like for everyone else leaving after us!!! It's been so fun posting all of these peeks!! This family was so sweet and so fun to photograph...Their newest addition is from Guatamala. Little Ava just stole my heart (those of you who know me know how i am just drawn to little girls!!) I managed to peel myself away from her to get some of the other kiddos too :) Beautiful family!!! The group photo of course was the hardest, but in the end I think it turned out great!!

Well I was on the plane to Lake Las Vegas today editing this session and the man next to me said..."wow, they are beautiful. That is the perfect family!" Well I couldn't agree more! And thanks Dad for hanging in there!!! You will be glad you did 5 years from now (yes only FIVE) when your oldest is a teenager!! So take these moments in and savor every one of them!!

Being a mom of 3 boys, it is a REALLY nice change to be able to photograph a beautiful little girl like Emory, who is actually EXCITED about getting her picture made! Such a JOY! We even ended up finishing the session at Krispy Kreme - my kind of session!

About every 6 months we are blessed to have our friends from Atlanta come and stay with us (whom we've known since college and used to double date with!)...how beautiful are their kids!! Sweet little Helen has cystic fibrosis and UNC has one of the best CF clinics around...so we get to see Ann & Will and their kids often...we are so lucky! How often do you see your college friends???

I have had several clients not know what or how to order, so if you would like, we can get together and custom-design a wall.....your photographs are the best art for your home. I offer gallery wrapped canvases and stand-outs for an alternative to framed prints. The gallery wraps may seem expensive, but when you frame a print they often end up being the same price. I am about to order this for my home and can't WAIT to see it up on the wall!! I will post pictures once I have it up!

Some of my fondest memories of growing up were my dance recitals, the tutus and being able to wear makeup! I got to experience it all over again watching my niece and some friends' kids in a dance recital on Sat. Flash photography was not allowed, but my camera did an ok job capturing the girls on stage from my not-so-close seat. I am so proud of these girls and the obvious talent they posses! (and yes, that's me in the first pic! :)

I am a HUGE fan of music...it ministers to me in so many ways. There is a girl/wife/mom of 5 kids in our church named Christa Wells who writes and records music. She has written 2 songs that have been recorded by Natalie Grant that are just beautiful, "Held" and her latest "Our Hope Endures" I encourage you to download them off itunes (you can hear "Held" below)! The other that you can hear right now on Christa's myspace (www.myspace.com/arogerswellsproject) is "Weightless." This is a beautiful song about forgivess and saying you're sorry. If you have ever struggled with either of these 2 things, this is a great song to listen to. Beautiful any way you look at it. I play it over and over again. Not sure if you can download this particular song, but she has a CD out that is available on itunes, So Much To Tell You, that she recorded with her sister, Mandy Rogers. And no, Christa didn't ask me to post this! I just really admire her as a person/musician/friend/and mom and just love her soothing voice!

No matter how you feel about the 2008 election, as a photographer, it is exciting to be able to take amazing documentary photographs of the candidates....Tamara Lackey, a very well known photographer in NC and around the country, was able to get some very cool shots of the democratic candidates this week while they were in NC, as well as President Clinton and superstar photographer Annie Leibovitz!! Tamara truly inspires me....see her blog for the past couple of posts and all of the amazing shots she got!! (my mom had a little hand in some of it....read Tamara's blog to see how :) wish i had a pic to post!

Our New Cross

A very talented husband and wife team made this cross for our church. For those of you who don't know, Lawson and I are part of a church plant that started about 5 years ago here in Wake Forest (Christ Our Hope Church). Well, after meeting in a school for almost 5 years, we were finally blessed with a church building of our own! This sweet couple labored for hours and hours over this cross, and the end result is just breathtaking. I had to share what Megan wrote as she was sanding the cross...

"Kneeling across the wood plank of walnut, planed and smoothed, i am trying to remove the remnants of any splinters, my knee presses harder on the board and my back hurts. i suddenly lose it, crying out to God, did anyone care about splinters on your cross, did they spend hours picking out the perfect pieces to befit the King Of Kings? Did they spend days making it shine, smooth and beautiful? cutting the pieces to make sure they had a perfect fit?
Tears welled up in my eyes as i realized that MY Saviour did not complain about how comfortable his cross was, nor how beautiful it looked, nor how mighty the tree was. The Prince of Peace died on nothing more than a common olive tree, naked, bleeding and tortured, and he was worried about ME (and you!)!!!!! and i have a hard time being humble, yet the Lord of Lords exemplified the very word as he took my shame upon himself.
awe-struck i am. had to share this feeling."
